Hello, I am a coach at a school that runs the wing-t. (previously coached the double wing) If you were to give advice to a coach new to the wing-t, what formations should a great wing-t team have included in the playbook. (not that you would run all of them every week, but what you would need over the course of a year)
To help, we see versions of the following 4-4 (4-2), 4-3, 3-4, 3-3.
I like the base formation 100, 900. I also love red and blue (dw background I suppose). What form of unbalanced do you like? What else? Do you need double tight? A spread look?
I would like to be about a 70% run 30% pass team. (pretty good QB and average receivers)
Thanks in advance, Coachank

Coach, LBDAD hit it on the head. Formations are just the half of it. I've seen a wing-t team win a title with wing right and left ... I've also seen them win with a multiple formation look. The goal of using formations is to put defenders into conflict. You want to create an environment where a defender has to think rather than react. Once they slow down, then you can even more advantage of things. Example: Tonight, the team we played ran a 6-3. So, we went into 4 wide where they had to break out of it. They did, they went into a 5-2, and we ran trap on them for good yardage. When you're new to the offense, you may want to stick with maybe 3-4 sets. My first year running the wing-t, we had Wing Rt/Lt , Slot Rt/Lt, Double Wing and that's it. But once your kids get a grasp of what you're doing, then you can go nuts. Good luck, Metz

I'm coming in over 2 months late on this topic but I like 300-800 (the WB + DB are aligned on the same side of the ball) to give you another block at the POA. At times, we will motion our wing across the formation to get into 300-800. Take care, TomR
