A Reach Block as used in Wing-T systems is a blocking technique used when you are uncovered and have a '"Fire, On, Backer" rule. First step is a flat lateral reach step (zone step). Second step is a crossover step to the crotch of the defender and strike a shoulder-forearm blow. The eyes control the feet and aim for the playside armpit. Make sure that shoulders stay square. After contact is made, execute the same techniques as Fire Block.

Coach, Coach Dierick teaches the footwork the same as I, but the reach block for me has 2 variations. The 1st variation is a hands block. We want the O-linemen to lift the shoulder pads of the defender and try to get his hips playside. Many people teach getting the head across, but Rex Ryan showed on one of his videos that a defender can still get lateral movement. Getting the hips across will actually force the defender to change direction. The 2nd variation, we tell the linemen to punch the playside hip of the defender with the backside fist, get the backside shoulder on that hip and scoot their butt playside. This is more of a desperation block and is done mostly when the defense is a quick, penetrating team. We use the first variation a little more often.
