Is anybody familiar with Coach Paul Conners shoulder blocking skills video? I viewed it on "Glazier Clinics"... I thought it was excellent... In respect to the little guys (8-10 y/o's) do any of you (seasoned wing t guys) think our kids could grasp the things taught in Coach Conners video... explaining the "shoulder surface" and leading into the progression of fit drill, strike a blow, 3 quick, 2 step, and fit and finish...etc... We have access to a lineman chute (5-man) and various sleds any specific drills we could use with these training aids?? I am open to ideas... As always thank you "coaches" for your time and advice. Oh, remember these kids are 8-10y/o's and eager to learn.

Coach -- Kids ages 8, 9, 10 can absolutely be taught the shoulder block and be drilled on the shoulder blocking progression. When I was head coach at Geneseo, IL (a program that has won 80% of its varsity games since 1962) our little league program was grades 5-6-7. Shoulder blocking was the way to go. Currently, at my current school we coach the 3rd thru 8th graders during a one week camp with shoulder blocking skills. Just my thoughts.

Coach, The shoulder block is a basic skill ... as basic as they get. So, yes, I would say it's absolutely possible to teach them as Coach Connor does. However, he probably goes a little too fast for 8-10 y/o's. So, it would be up to you to water the verbage down for your players. The video, however, is a must for your coaching library. Metz

Coach, one more thing. I had the pleasure of meeting Coach Connor at the National Wing-t Clinic this year (and Coach Dierick too). If you get a chance, it's the best clinic you can go to as a wing-t coach. I've been to many clinics and they don't discuss much wing-t. It's all spread stuff right, and veer. But the NWT Clinic is 100% wing-t! Hope to see you there next year.
